MacBooks set up with a dual-boot system that includes Mac OS X and Windows 7 automatically boot to the Mac OS X operating system by default. Boot a MacBook Pro From a CD. Change the Boot.
I am writing this because it took me a few hours of attempting then searching to complete my installation so I MUST save you all from the same pain I had.
1st - I couldn't find good ISO bringing to DVD instructions with anyone running OS X El Capitan. So when I followed the YouTubes and Etc I was left at the last step of burning.
2nd - I guess i'm just old because it seems like no one is still installing Windows 7 in 2015 but me lol.
3rd - I will use a DVD instead of Jump Drive for the Win 7 because it works best for the older machines like mine. Mid 2010 MacBook Pro
These steps will take you from Start to finish and only require 1 DVD and a Jump drive with about 2GB free (not even) and maybe a full two hours.
INSTRUCTIONS
1 - You will need a Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit.
-Maybe you have a Win 7 install disc or want to order one from Amazon for about $100. If so then go to step LEAVE. This Aint for you.
-Not sure what is allowed here but if you are searching forums and can't find a Torrent for this step then you should not be installing Windows on your Mac.
-I searched and downloaded this which took about 25minutes.
-Folder was saved and inside the folder was my Windows_7_Home_Premium_64Bit_.ISO
-You must burn this ISO file to a DVD and this is where the fun comes in at.
2 - Burn the ISO to a DVD
-El Capitan makes this harder using Disk Utility now. The old one and many YouTubes take you here then say OPEN the ISO and select Burn, but you can't
-El Capitan does not have a Burn from Disk Utility so don't try.
-Open the FOLDER and find the Windows_7_Home_Premium_64Bit_.ISO and Right-Click. Select Burn 'Windows_7_Home_Premium_64Bit_.ISO' to Disc
-IMPORTANT IMPORTANT IMPORTANT When you Burn you MUST SELECT 4X and not the standard MAX of 8X. This is why it never worked for me using the DVD. I know it sounds crazy but this is the simple fix the saved my world.
-When the DVD is complete you'll know because it will either eject or show on your desktop.
3. Run Boot Camp Assistant (drivers)
-You need to Download the Win 7 Drivers for MAC/Windows.
-Connect your Jump Drive and select the Download Driver option. This will take about 10-15 minutes for no good reason but it will let you know when complete
4. Run Boot Camp Assistant (Win Install)
-Uncheck the option for Drivers.
-Leave checked the Install.
- Do the Next Next stuff and select the size of your new Windows 7 C:drive. I did this one time with only 40GB and it was bad. Last time is did 110GB which works great this time.
5. Run Driver Files
-Now that you're in Windows. Navigate to the Jump drive and install the drivers.
-This will make sure your keyboard and mouse and volume buttons
Should be all set now.
